Marya is a Greek-American architect, writer, educator, and founder of Ekphrasis Design Lab, a Chicago-based practice exploring the entanglements of nature, medicine, and technology in contemporary architecture. Her work investigates how emerging technologies are reshaping bodies, environments, and the built world. Grounded in nearly a decade of healthcare architecture, her previous experience spans urban design for SOM, landscape and geological architecture for Kanye West, installations for Haworth, and independent research and curatorial projects. Her work has been presented at the Chicago Architecture Biennial, Venice Architecture Biennale, MAXXI Museum, Harvard GSD, Harvard Climate Action Week, and COP26. Her writing operates as an extension of her design research, examining architecture through technology, media, ecology, and the body. She is a contributor to Metropolis Magazine, COTF (Classics of The Future), and DISC Journal and editor for Future Tempos: Conversations on Architecture Across Time and Media, and her writing brings architectural discourse into conversation with broader transformations in science, technology, and contemporary culture. Marya currently teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Illinois Institute of Technology. She holds an MDes in Ecology from Harvard GSD and a BArch from IIT. Her current research explores healthcare digital twins and the convergence of spatial computing and predictive technologies in the design of future healthcare environments.
